In this video, we will take you on a tour of some of the best Halal carts in NYC. Halal is the most popular street food in New York City. During the tour, we check out five carts and trucks across Manhattan and Queens.

But, we couldn’t tackle all of this food by ourselves. So, we invited a special guest to eat with us. He has eaten some of the worst rated food in NYC, so we wanted to take him to some of the best.

Take a look at the list below for all of the stops on this tour. They can be found on the below maps:

Astoria/Long Island City and Jackson Heights http://foodandfootprints.com/eat-queens-newyork-nyc-food-maps/

Manhattan http://foodandfootprints.com/eat-manhattan-food-map-nyc/

1: Royal Grill Halal Food
W 44 Street between 6th and 7th Avenue
New York, NY 10036

First stop of this tour is Royal Grill Halal Food in Midtown. They are the Vendy Awards 2018 Vendy Cup Champions. The cart is owned by a couple from Bangladesh. Here, we ordered their signature dish, a chicken tikka masala. But, we ordered it with no white sauce or hot sauce, just a little green sauce. And, their mango pickle is a MUST, although you need to specifically ask them for it.

2: Kwik Meal
W 45th Street between 6th and 7th Avenue
New York, NY 10036

Up next, we visited Kwik Meal, another well-known Halal cart just one block from Royal Grill. The cart was opened by a former chef at The Russian Tea Room, a high end restaurant in Manhattan. Fittingly, the cart serves higher-end Halal food with higher quality ingredients. Here, we ordered lamb over rice. This plate was the most expensive of the night at $9, but worth every penny. Plenty of actual slices of lamb along with real tzatziki sauce.

3: The Halal Guys
W 53rd Street and 6th Avenue
New York, NY 10019

What can we say about The Halal Guys? We couldn’t do a Halal cart tour in NYC without them. They are the most famous Halal cart in NYC and have expanded from one cart to a global empire. Here, we ordered a plate of chicken over rice with white sauce and hot sauce. Check out the video to see if it lives up to the hype or if it is overrated.

4: King of Falafel and Shawarma
30-16 Ditmars Blvd
Astoria, NY 11105

After our first three stops in Manhattan, we headed to Queens. First, we stopped at the legendary King of Falafel and Shawarma truck in Astoria. They first began as a cart on Broadway and 29th Street in Astoria and now have expanded to a mix of trucks, carts and brick and mortar. They are also the 2010 Vendy Cup Champions at the Vendy Awards.

The founder, Freddy Zedeia, is a street food legend here in New York City. This spot is one of the few that offers proper stacked layered shawarma in a truck or cart. So of course, we had to order a platter of beef and lamb shawarma along with falafel. They are very generous here and offer free falafel while you wait. Another plus is that this is one of the few carts or trucks that offer tahini.

5: Sammy’s Halal Food
Corner of 73rd Street and Broadway
Jackson Heights, NY 11372

Our final stop was at Sammy’s Halal Cart, a longtime favorite of ours. Here, we ordered a chicken over rice with white sauce, red sauce and their special green sauce. They don’t offer you green sauce, you have to specifically ask them for it! Sammy’s is also a 2006 Vendy Cup Champions at the Vendy Awards.
