Street Food in Taipei at Ningxia Night Market

One of the best reasons to visit Taipei is all of the amazing food to be found in the city. We had our first taste just after we landed, which you can see in our last video.
Taipei is known for their night markets. After a jetlag-induced nap, we got up and headed for Ningxia Night Market. We didn’t have any specific stalls in mind beforehand and let our senses lead the way.
Stop 1: Fried Squid Stall
At first, we were intrigued by the stuffed squid. But, we saw the lady at the stall frying up entire squid and chopping them up to order. It was a great way to start off our night of eating at Ningxia.
Stop 2: Grilled Angus Beef with Cumin
There were a few of these grilled beef stalls. Cubes of Angus beef are grilled with a blowtorch and then topped with one of many seasonings. As cumin fanatics, we immediately chose our favorite spice. In fact, this is the main reason why we ordered the beef. We were glad we did, as it was covered in cumin!
Stop 3: Scallion Pancake
This was a fun one to watch and we had a front row seat to the action. A ball of dough was rolled out and dropped into the hot oil. Then, an egg mixture was added to the oil and combined with the dough. It came with basil leaves, hot sauce and a little sweet sauce. Airy, crispy and delicious!
Stop 4: Deep Fried Yam Balls With Salted Pickled Egg Yolk
We didn’t know it at the time, but this was one of the most well-known vendors at Ningxia. These had an excellent mix of sweet, savory and salty. The first few bites had more of the egg flavor, but then the pickled taste came out more.
Overall, Ningxia was a great introduction to the night market scene in Taipei. It was a bit more low-key and we enjoyed the food and feel.
